Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Hi folks: Do any of you know if BP fouling affects aluminum? The reason I ask is that I have an antique hammer double with Briley aluminum inserts. I'd like to shoot BP shells thru it, but I don't want to ruin the inserts. Briley says "No", but I got the impression that it is a CYA thing. So, I'm asking here. I can use APP if that would be a better choice. Thanks in advance. --Dawg
Sedalia Dave
BP and APP will corrode aluminum. But not right away. As long as you can remove the inserts and clean them properly when you get home after a match you shouldn't have any problems. Now Pyrodex would likely ruin them before the end of the match. J-BAR #18287
Why not buy a second set of inserts just for shooting BP? Clean ‘em as best you can. If they rot, so what? You will still have the others.
The Original Lumpy Gritz
Yes it does. Just like steel. OLG
