UTAH BOB, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU.

Recommended Posts

Hey UB, did you once, long ago write and post here a poem , called The Schoolhouse Saloon, or something similar? If yes, would you care to re-post it for me, and for new pards who might have missed it? If it was not you then my apologies to both you and the true writer. It is a fine poem. Thanks for your time.

Doesn't ring a bell. Can you give me an idea what it was about?

Was it this'n?

The Saloon

There’s something about this here Saloon

You can’t always figure it out

Sometimes it looks like the phase of the moon

Has left a few people in doubt

A lunatic here, a big screwball there

They’ve all bellied up to the bar

Some are just young'uns and some got no hair

They come here from near and far

Bankers and lawyers and bakers of pies

Farmers and realtors too

Good looking women with bright shining eyes

An occasional war horse or two

Everyone’s laughing here most every night

That’s the attraction I guess

Get away from your troubles, and keep it all light

Even if the whole world’s a big mess

‘Course it’s not all just jokin' and clownin' around

Sometimes a ruckus will start

But a smile will break out where there were a few frowns

That’s a sight that’ll warm this ole heart

It’s a real melting pot, this old Saloon here

Maybe that’s why it works so well

A slice of America and a cold glass of beer

And the sound of the Liberty Bell

It was about a woman who owned a saloon, who became involved with a younger man, something of a greenhorn. She teaches him about what it takes to be a man in the West, along with initiating him into the mysteries of love. In the end he leaves, ready to make his way in a man’s world, and before long she finds another young man to help along. It was a good poem.

I have a vague memory of that but can’t find anything in my archives. Could be it’s just one I scribbled inn the saloon and never created a page for my files.

Or could be it was one of a Boston John’s fine creations.

Just can’t remember. :(

Well UB, I liked that one. I have a file labeled POEMS I started with another of your literary wanderings.
If you have more you would occasionally share I know I’d appreciate them.
