Cat Brules
Thanks! A very good technical look at the P-47. And, also an opportunity to know about other related video. Cat Brules
Chantry
Robert Johnson, who was the 5th ranking American ace in WWII and 2nd ranking American ace in Europe flew the P-47 the entire time. He related a story in the book 'Thunderbolt' about how much damage a Thunderbolt could take. It's summarized at the link: Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_S._Johnson#Near-fatal_engagement While not as "pretty" or "sexy", not as maneuverable and lacking the range* of the P-51, it remained an effective fighter. It was probably the best all around American fighter in Europe being both a very good fighter and an excellent fighter bomber that could take a beating and still bring it's pilot home. *The P-47N variant developed to escort B-29s over Japan had a range of 2200 miles, about 200 miles more than a P-51D w/drop tanks
