The real Charlie Harley

Recommended Posts

A month or so ago, someone started a thread about the origins of our aliases.   Mine was taken directly from my great-grandfather, Charlie Van Bowen Harley, who served as a deputy US marshal out of Fort Smith, Arkansas in the late 1890s-early 1900s.

This past weekend we were digging through old photos and came across a few. The first is Charlie at the courthouse, along with 11 other lawmen. He’s in the front row on the right, the only one without a neck tie.

You can see the steps on which it was taken if you scroll through photos on this web site.

Harley is my given middle name after my maternal grandmother’s maiden name.

Thank you sharing this moment of family And alias history.

Rooster Cogburn:  I mean to...see you hang in Fort Smith at Judge Parker’s convenience.
