I had just watched him with Tom Selleck in Crossfire Trail (2001) wearing a terrible hairpiece.

i very much enjoyed his roles over the years .  Sorry to see him go.  He was 85.

:( Darn! I have always liked him. I was just thinking about him the other day. I was thinking that his role in “The Thing” was an odd role for him. It really bummed me out when he turned out to be an alien.

To me, he was always “a Good Guy”.

From what I can find:

Got started in Hollyweird as a stuntman, mostly on horseback.

Was in True Grit, Rooster Cogburn and Gunsmoke.

Worked around horses, including being a farrier.

First repeat role was as a blacksmith on the Waltons.

Never took an acting class.  Said that you played a role as real.

I met him once, briefly.  He married a lady from here, that we knew.  He was so nice, and had such a presence about him.  He seemed so genuine, and matter-of-fact, and down to earth. What you saw, is what you got.

He was an undeserved gift to all of us.

We are all diminished by his passing.

I refuse to say goodbye.  I'll simply say....I'll see you later.

W.K.

I always enjoyed his work in films; "The Firm" and "Cocoon" to name just 2.

Also, thought that he had the second best mustache in Hollywood, after Tom S. His was even better than Sam E's IMHO.

RIP
