Dubious Don #56333
Our schools have been turning out good little communistas for decades. I suppose we could blame it on the Soviets LOL. Their legacy. Try to saddle us with a failed ideology because all they still care about is ending up top dog. Like the Chinese who likewise, probably, have been doing the same thing. One thing to remember, the media only shows what they want people to see. In my area anyway, I see the effects of liberals and such but mostly, people I meet aren't all that impressed by our little socialista compadres. For those areas like Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago, NYC and others who are currently enjoying their free trial of socialism, perhaps enough voters will make a difference in Nov. Of course in some of those areas the dems are so thoroughly entrenched you couldn't get'em out with a jackhammer crew and wrecking ball.
Chicken Rustler, SASS #26680
Yes I do ask where they come from, that's why I check instead of just believing memes like this. He went to Nicaragua for 10 days to help pass out food. I don't know about him, but supposedly a lot of people left that Nicaragua Solidarity group when the focus changed from humanitarian goals. I can't think of anything good to say about DeBlasio, but that doesn't mean it's ok to spin so much that it's intentionally misleading.

I'll assume your note about his going to Nicaragua for ten days to help pass out food is from his Wikipedia article: "In 1988, he traveled with the Quixote Center[*] to Nicaragua for 10 days to help distribute food and medicine during the Nicaraguan Revolution." However, the very next lines state: "De Blasio was an ardent supporter of the ruling socialist government, the Sandinista National Liberation Front, which was opposed by the Reagan administration at the time.[27] After returning from Nicaragua, de Blasio moved to New York City, where he worked for a nonprofit organization focused on improving health care in Central America.[27] He continued to support the Sandinistas in his spare time and joined a group called the Nicaragua Solidarity Network of Greater New York, which held meetings and fundraisers for the Sandinista political party." *The Quixote Center of Maryland is a "Social Justice Group" founded by former Catholic priest William R. Callahan (expelled from the Society of Jesus in 1991). Callahan was a controversial figure; undoubtedly he did a number of good things in his life, but was widely thought of as somewhat of a "radical." And the Quixote Center has long been considered to follow a Marxist agenda. Carry on~!

Said he went to Nicaragua in the '80s instead of saying he went on a 10 day field trip. Said he joined a group whose goal was to replace Capitalism with Democratic Socialism (instead of Socialism) with nothing to support that that was their goal or that it was the reason he joined. Said he was proud of his Marxist work with no mention of what he was referring to, for all we know he could have been talking about handing out food and they call that Marxist. Then connected him with the Clintons to insinuate that they're Marxist, cause we hate them so they must be, right? Yes it's misleading and yes it was intentional. And now you can all jump to the conclusion that I must be a Marxist because I'm supporting him, even though I already said I don't. I don't have to support him to oppose memes like this. Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Huh? CR, nobody said you were a Marxist. And nobody said you were a De Blasio supporter. I posted information that supports the substance of the meme (a meme that I did not and would not have posted, but that's besides the point). You might wish to do some research... like it or not, history is history, and the gentleman's story is a matter of record. By the way - nobody mentioned the Clintons here until you just did.
