Silver Sam, SASS #34718L
Does your Winchester 73 or '66 throw your Brass Forward ????? Mine did, But it Don't No Mo !!!! You need to remove the Carrier and you'll need a Dremel with a round stone Bit..... Like this One........... Then Very Carefully Grind away on the Carrier till it looks like the one in the Pics below...... The slot you grind should be a little deeper on the left side of the Carrier....... Look at the pics closely. Once your done, if you did it right... your brass will be ejected Up and to the right.... I've done Two like this and now get most all of my brass back..... I've posted this before.... Can't remember exactly who it was that came up with it...... But It's Real Easy to do and it works........... Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!!! The ball diameter is just under 1/2" The guns I did it on are both 38's If you were going to do it on a 45 or 44-40 you could use the same stone, but just make the opening slightly wider. Warden Callaway
My Winchester Miroku 1873 44WCF tends to throw them about a foot high and to the right. My original Winchester 1873 just bubbles them out the top a couple of inches.

It might be considered internal mod since you'd have to look inside to see it with the action closed. Nevertheless, these two statements are in the SHB: "All parts may be smoothed, re-profiled, polished, de-burred, or replaced provided they are not prohibited in these Covenants." "The carrier and/or lifter mechanisms in rifles may be lightened, welded, modified, or replaced."

What exactly does this mod change? The contour on the upper back protion of the lifter (carrier)! That is the part of the lifter that flips the empty brass some direction. What exactly does this mod change? I dont have any Slo-Mo footage of it.... But I believe the mod allows the empty to drop lower and more vertical before the Carrier flips it out, which in turn throws it more Up than Forward........ Whatever it does, It Works! And I get most of my Brass Back
