That's as bad as removing Confederate flags and statues. I'm really glad I'm old. I do not want to see this country turn into Cuba or Venezuela.

PF

It’s worse that statues. Absolutely ridiculous. The man was a movie actor. Next, they’ll go after John Ford, the studios, producers, writers and anyone else associated with westerns or Civil War movies!
McArthyism all over again. Makes even less sense this time.

“They” have been trying to rename John Wayne Airport for years.

"They" will NOT give up until "they" get what they want... no matter what it is, no matter how long it takes, no matter whose or what philosophies they disagree with.

"They" are enlightened, don'tcha know.   -_-

I grew up in OC.  I'm heartbroken they would do that.  NOW, I'm not SURPRISED, just heartbroken.  The Wayne family did a lot of philanthropic work in the county and are well known for it.  Does that get negated because of something that was said 50 years ago?  What a bunch of BOZOs.

I hope his family gets the opportunity to keep the statue of him in the concourse.  That is a fantastic piece of art.

It's just another example of the "party of tolerance" blatant hypocrisy and complete intolerance. Kimmel does black face and parodies black athletes and gets a pass.

The superficial, stated reason is to eliminate homage to anything that smacks of racism.  The deeper desire is to eliminate prior icons that were revered to replace them with more socially progressive themes and heroes.  It’s a tactic of Socialists and Marxists.  It’s not a coincidence that the co-founder of the BLM organization is a self-identified Marxist.  There’s a statue of Lenin in Seattle.  Has anyone tried to tear it down?

This is laughable.  A movie actor makes some statements a generation ago, some folks take issue with the content, so a government body decides to rename an airport.  They own the airport, so I guess it's their right to do so; it will not extinguish some folks' appreciation for Wayne's film legacy.  Seems to me that there is a lot of self-righteous indignation going on.

When are they going to get rid of the democrat party? You know the one that was against the civil rights act and had KKK members?

John Wayne quote:

“I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people,”

They are doing everything they can to prove him right.

It's because he used 1892's and SAA's in his westerns. Audiences in the day had no clue, but today, they are all "woke." I accept that they weren't correct and enjoy them anyway. People are just so sensitive today it's really tiresome.

Looking beyond the race thing. This standard would remove about 90% of our elected officials, State and Federal! No wonder they don't like it.

That’s how they work . They just keep chipping away at everything. To them compromise means they get something they want and you agree to give them what they want just for a temporary cessation of misery.

Our country is becoming weak with being offended and this "woke" junk. This will never stop until "fundamental change to America" is complete - at that time it will no longer be America.

What about the racist hypocrites that are condemning the people because they are old, white, male, conservative, veteran, anti-communist / anti-socialist / anti-liberal, freedom loving gun loving pro-constitutionalists?

If we do not vote, this year, of all years....we probably will share in the blame for all this.

Voting without doing any research into the candidates...or lack of voting at all, is why these idiots are in office right now.

I would like to say how hard is this to comprehend, that we need, and must vote? But it must be pretty hard, since the same ones are elected over and over again, and people gripe, but they still vote them in.

If you own a firearm...and if you eat...you are involved in politics, whether you like it or not.

The gun owners, their families, their friends, their acquaintances, have got to vote....this year!!!

Wake Up!!!

We dont just share the blame - "we" own a lot of the blame.   We've stood by and let incrementalism back American culture into a corner under the veil of political correctness, equality, and justice...

One side of the political spectrum is NOT interested in any of those.  (hint - its the same one that started the civil war - the same party that put up all of the confederate statues at the turn of the century - the same party dropped nuclear weapons on Japan - the same party that escalated Vietnam - the same party that CHAMPIONED the man who left Mary Jo Kopechne to die - the same party that told us we would be surrendering our country to OPEC if we didnt stop using oil - the same party that told us they feel our pain - the same party that described desegregation of school as 'creating a jungle' that wasn't suitable for his children - the same party that called minority youth super-predators -  the same party that said New York would be under water by 2013 - the same party that said Russia wasn't a threat then they were a threat then they weren't a threat now they are a threat - the same party that placed the blame for division at the feet of those who cling to their guns, religion, and antipathy to people that aren't like them - the same party that took a knee in support of a spreading series of violent racial protests that have resulted in the literally surrendering of police stations to the mob -  the same party that said "eat your peas - and the same party that now says it is racist to refer to COVID-19 as the Chinese Wuhan Bat Virus)

...or maybe I am just misinterpreting what the media is telling me to think

Easy on that one Chuck. That act actually saved millions of lives both Allied and Japanese compared to the cost of an invasion, and quite probably my Father's life among them. One of the best quotes I ever heard came from a U.S. Navy fighter pilot that flew in the pacific. He said, "And for those of you saying we shouldn't have used the bombs, you weren't there." You cannot judge a past generation by the standards of today.

Very much my point.

However - my point stands - if we are going to be intellectually honest about things - the party that was in charge of dropping nukes was the party that spent the most time protesting it.

For the record - I am PRO nuke - drop one - drop another.   I'm a scorched earth find of guy.

But again - if we are going to bust out the scales of social justice - EVERYTHING needs to be measured the same.  Good and Bad.  If my Grandfathers had been drawn into a long protracted battle in the Pacific, I wouldn't even be able to comment on historical events.  That doesn't change the fact that the USA dropped nuclear bombs on two cities - but Hooray for America - boooo Japan.

That was then - this is now.

Hitler, Hirohito, Mussolini: those men led countries that are now some of our strongest allies in the world.  Do we break ties with Germany because they USED to be Nazis?

Do we junk all of our Volkswagens and start buying the shitty cars that GM is producing??

Do we junk all of our Tacomas and start buying the overpriced PickUp trucks that Ford is selling??

Do I have to get rid of my Uberti pistols and Miroku rifle because they used to be the enemy??

...just asking for a friend

One side of the political spectrum absolutely wants to prosecute American imperialism based on revisionist history - and it is the same party that sat in the White House in WW2

One side of the political spectrum absolutely wants to prosecute the Confederacy based on revisionist history - and it is the same party that CREATED the Confederacy

One side of the political spectrum absolutely wants to prosecute "SYSTEMIC RACISM" in America - and it is the same party that led secession and started the Civil War.

One side of the political spectrum was responsible for the Dred Scott Decision and Jim Crow laws - the same party that leads the charge on so called "social justice"

One side of the political spectrum wants to change the name of military installations - but don't seem concerned about "Fort McClellan" - a white democrat that slowed rolled his duties as a Union General and then ran against Lincoln with the platform that he's let the South keep slavery if they stopped the war.

One side of the political spectrum literally gave birth to Yellow Journalism in the form of Randolph Hearst and Joe Pulitzer - now they give a prize named after one of them and froth at the mouth when someone says "fake news"

One side of the political spectrum got us into and then escalated the Vietnam War - while younger members of their party protested the Vietnam war

One side of the political spectrum used that Yellow Journalism to drag the nation into a war - much like they are doing today.

One side of the political spectrum is hell bent on erasing history not because it is offensive and racist - but because history can be used as "evidence" to show that the entire democratic ethos is a pile of crap........................

...and Nukes are good - they saved millions of lives, ended the war early, and brought both of my grandfathers home so they could have grandkids
