Politically Correct

Not that I listen to them, but the Dixie Chicks, the left-wing singing group, that originated here in this area, have dropped the "Dixie" part of their name.

Of course Lady Antebellum, dropped the "Antebellum".

I read this morning that some are actively advocating replacing the Star Spangled Banner, as our National Anthem, with something "more appropriate".

Next thing you know, all the former Confederate States will be pressured to change their names, since it may remind people of our history.

I also read that the pressure is on Washington, again, to change the name of their pro-football team.  It had quieted down, for the last few years, or at least I did not hear any news casts of it.

I wonder, does this mean I have to burn my books written my Mark Twain, and my books on the history of the war between the states, since both seem to give a narrative of the mindset of a group of folks back in the 19th century?  Should the American Cowboy be labeled a racist, since he, on occasion, had to fight the "native" Americans, while driving the herds to the railhead?

Should we change the name of the Army's First Cavalry Division, because it might offend the ancestors of the "native" Americans who fought against various cavalry regiments in the old west?

There seems to be limitless things to be offended by, nowadays.

What a bunch of whine-babies!!!!

Our history, good, bad, or sideways, is what it is.  It is done, and we can't undo it.  We can study it, and hopefully, learn from our mistakes, but to gloss it over and/or hide it, and bury our heads in the sand, or stick our fingers in our ears and say "naa, naa, naa, naa, naaaaa!", and hope it will all go away, is childish.

To ignore our history, no matter what it was, is simply another form of lying.

Bulletin!!! This country was founded, and settled, and continues to be inhabited, by imperfect human beings, who have good, and bad, and indifferent qualities, and that includes people of all groups, colors, creeds, backgrounds, and beliefs.  There are no exceptions!

Best thing to do is take the good things they wrote, and did, and also know and teach, in the light of hindsight, the wrong and unacceptable things they did.  Leave the monuments up, so we can show and teach our children, and grandchildren what the did, both good and bad, and why, if they did anything unacceptable, we don't agree, or do those things anymore.

Honestly, sometimes I think these people don't want to talk about or to see things from a different perspective, because it would simply ruin their whining, and self pity.  It's history...it's done...let's study it, learn from it, and turn our attention to, perhaps, things that we can do something about....such as: the virus; the economy; the muslim terrorists, who want to murder us, or enslave us; and to support our service men and women, who are still engaged in that conflict over there.

It's an agenda of death by a thousand cuts.

You start with something that can be made palatable, such as removing statues of Confederates. You can get people to go along with that. Just convince people that the Civil War was entirely fought over one issue only. Johnny Reb wasn't an American and he was a loser and a traitor. Then while you have people nodding their heads, you start renaming things to purge those oppressive people from the everyday. Then you adjust your sights and start taking out Columbus, Lewis & Clark, Serro or a bunch of Spaniards while folks be agreeing.

Then you start the big game and chip away at the founding fathers. The old white slave owners who drafted a contract to keep slaves beaten and in chains. There will be pushback, but the agenda can point back and say, "look at all the progress we've made, surely we can take just one more step."

Down will come our founders. One by one, disparaged and destroyed by our collective shame.

Finally, about that contract, that document that those evil racist conjured up. That thing they call a Constitution. It's only purpose is to guarantee white supremacy so it too must be destroyed.....

Keep a wary eye.

Nothing says, ‘historical ignorance’ quite as clearly as trying to interpret history with contemporary values.

Truer words were never spoken!!

As I have said elsewhere, judging a man or a society by standards other than those of that point in history is wrong and detrimental to history itself!!

Nope.  They started it.

I'm not a fan of either band and I don't listen to country "music".  The bands have the right to change their name to whatever they want, either because they are "woke" or because they don't want to alienate the fan base.  In the end their fans will decide if they agree with the bands or no.

Every October for the last thirty years, the Fresno Historical Society has sponsored the annual "Civil War Revisited" event.  For many years this has been the largest re-enactment in the country, taking place at Kearney Park, a vast Southern-style plantation setting.

I doubt we will have it this year ~ to borrow from George H. W. Bush, " 'Twouldn't be [politically] prudent."

The good news - such as it is - is that the Society can blame the Covid.  :(

Y'all are talking like this is a new thing.

Remember the Confederate Air Force? People flew World War 2 fighters and bombers. Everybody's rank was Colonel.

It's gone. No longer exists. It was racist.<_<

I have not heard....perhaps some of you have.  Are they actively targeting that large Confederate carving on Stone Mountain, in Georgia???  Seems like I read it was on private property, and that may make a difference, if true.  That one was carved on a mountain side, in sort of a similar manner to Mount Rushmore.  Oh, yes....Mount Rushmore.  I bet that is, or will be, a target, for sure.  They probably even want to blot out Lincoln's portrait, as well.

The liberals, leftists, socialists, and the media, among others, are having a feeding frenzy, right now.

I happened to look them up yesterday. They became Commemorative Air Force in 2002.

I worked on some of their engines at Mattituck Aviation.

I'm not a big fan of country music especially the new stuff so I could care less about the "chicks". They trashed Bush W when they overseas somewhere which is a very unpatriotic thing to do so they can kiss my Northern butt!

That was my point.

I'm sure they still fly the warbirds. I bet they're even still all colonels.

They are not, however, members of the Confederate Air Force, because the Confederate Air Force no longer exists. It was racist, and therefore had to go.

If they changed the name of this group to Old Farts Playing Cowboy With Real Guns, we would now be members of OFPCWRG.

And SASS would no longer exist.

cowperson action firearm discharging.

Cowpersons are some of the most guilty.  The blood of billions of innocent bovines forever stains their memory.  Cowboys lead these poor creatures to death houses where they were killed and butchered to feed America's lust for eating the flesh of lesser creatures.  Cowboy Action Shooting pairs this history of bloodlust with the desire to oppress native peoples and mercilessly kill those with different opinions concerning the outcome of games of chance.  The blood soaked sport of Cowboy Action is a blight on this nation.

I, too, will be attending a match tomorrow and plan to have a ball.  Screw a whole bunch of sniveling socialist pukes.

If they succeed in removing all of the memorials to the civil war then in about 50 years someone will deny that slavery or the civil war ever happened, just like the holocaust is being denied by some people now.

That history will be rewritten and repurposed to fit some narrative that suits the agenda of the moment.  It might take decades, but eventually, all the lies will become too cumbersome to juggle and the whole thing will collapse like the socialist regime in Moscow did.
