June 21, 1834
Rancho Petaluma was deeded to Mariano Vallejo, a 66,622-acre Mexican land grant in present day Sonoma County. Vallejo was born a Spanish subject, served in the Mexican military and helped shape California’s transition to American statehood. PS: Yesterday's post was erroneous so I removed it.
