If so, what did you use to remove the existing finish? If some kind of poly, I’ll have to use a more invasive stripping method which I’d rather avoid. Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted June 20, 2020 Share Posted June 20, 2020 It's spray polyurethane varnish. Regular stripper will pull it quickly. Easier than Uberti's finish! The older "red paint" used on many Norinco and early IAC 97s is a little harder to get completely off, and then you are left with a white low grain wood that is VERY hard to make look like conventional gun stocks.
