The a10 brings its brass home. Do they reload?

Probably not, the 30mm rounds from the A-10 have an aluminum case which, when the empties aren't being handed out as souvenirs, are probably sent to be recycled.

Nice size comparison

The GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun next to a VW Type 1. Removing an installed GAU-8 from an A-10 requires first installing a jack under the aircraft's tail to prevent it from tipping, as the cannon makes up most of the aircraft's forward weight. (US Air Force photo)

I disagree with one part of the initial statement of the purpose of the A-10.  Yes, we want to be able to deliver CAS close to friendly forces!  But we don't want to deliver ordnance "close" to the enemy; we want it right on the buggers!  Which the A-10 does amazingly well!  I'm also not sure about the designation of the A-10 as an aircraft...  That sucker is a flying tank!
