This is the story of not the poster heroes, but broken, cheerful, and very diverse guys who just wanted to live. At the decisive moment they managed to do the only right thing and performed the deed worthy of the legend.

Today, on the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland, a memorial plaque to the Hero of the Soviet Union Semyon Vasilievich Konovalov  has  opened in Kazan. A commemorative plaque appeared on house № 15 along Kirpichnikov Street, where the famous tanker lived after the war.

The commemorative ceremony was attended by  Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan  Damir Natfullin, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Kazan Iskander Giniyatullin, Head of the Kazan Higher Tank Command Order of the Zhukov Red Banner School, Kirill Kulakov, Acting Head of the Soviet Region of Kazan Andrei Yakovlev, daughter of the Hero of the Soviet Union Semyon Konovalov and others Irina Brodskaya .

“It is gratifying that today, on one of the most important holidays - the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland, we honor the memory of our hero - Konovalov Semen Vasilyevich. The sacred duty of the state and society is to honor the memory of our heroes, so that our younger generation remembers and knows whom, we are grateful for a clear sky, ”the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan emphasized.

In 1942, the crew of the tank commander, Lieutenant Semen Vasilyevich Konovalov, in one battle near the Nizhnemityakin farm in the Rostov Region destroyed 16 enemy tanks, 8 vehicles with infantry and 2 armored vehicles.

 “There are many such tankers, these are people who have counted a large number of tanks destroyed, but Konovalov’s feat is unique - not a single tanker was able to destroy such a number of tanks in such a short time,” said Kirill Kulakov, head of the Kazan Higher Tank Command Order of the Zhukov Red Banner School . Major General said that this year the tank school is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and a bust of Konovalov was installed on the Alley of School Heroes. By the way, in Kazan in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union named one of the streets of the Soviet district.

The daughter of Semyon Konovalov, Irina Brodskaya, thanked everyone involved in this event. “I will not hide, it was my old dream, which came true. The deepest bow to all those who took part in this. I believe that the opening of the memorial plaque today confirms the grandeur of the feat. We must constantly remember that such people were among us, ”she said.

Semen Vasilievich Konovalov

Born February 15, 1921 in the village. Yambulatovo (now it is the Verkhneuslonsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan. Soviet tank ace, participant in the Great Patriotic War. In one of the battles on July 13, 1942, during the Voronezh-Voroshilovgrad operation, commanding the crew of the KV-1 tank, he destroyed 16 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns. Died in Kazan on April 4, 1989 at the age of 68.

On March 31, 1943, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “for exceptional courage and bravery,” S. V. Konovalov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

yeah, that can be distracting.  Pause the movie, click “options” on your remote (3 horizontal lines) and you can cancel one set of subtitles.

It really wasn't distracting.  Just a bit humorous.  I used to stay up late on Friday and Saturday nights, watching some of the Oriental slice & dice movies.  See them talking in one Oriental language, voice over in another, and subtitled in a third.  I couldn't understand any of it, but it was fun.

 All other texts that I have seen used the word motherland or Mother Russia. Germany was Fatherland.

 

just an observation.

Might be because Tartarstan is a majority Muslim country.
