but what I do on Facebook is keep up with friends I don't get to see often enough.  Just scroll on past all the other stuff.

I mustn't get on Facebook!!  I'd be too likely to use those big, flowery, edumacated words that I'd normally reduce to very offensive expletives in reply my "liberal beyond all imagination" sister when she goes on one of her silly leftist rants!!  Two days later, someone in the moderators' office would finally define what I said to be morbidly offensive and put me in, (most likely permanent) time out!!     :o

I've decided that my friends will call or text me if they really have something to say.  With the riots and everything, I could just imagine setting a lot of people off with my point of view that is POSITIVE toward the police.  I already set a lot of folks off who kept trying to tell me how my children were going to die alone from the virus because I went to Walmart twice in 6 weeks, even though children don't usually get it.

Buy, sell, and hire out.  Google has hands everywhere, even Gunbroker uses Google services.

I've enjoyed Facebook for years for its ability for me to maintain contact with people I've served with, friends and fraternity brothers from college, and people I worked with, all of whom I wouldn't be able to stay in contact with otherwise.

Lately, though, I've found the anger, the divisiveness, the vitriol put forth to be saddening and frustrating, because I don't wish to engage in the politics and disagree with others at the risk of alienating people I genuinely like and respect. I'm considering taking a break from it as a result. Kind of like here, unfortunately.

I use facebook to keep in touch with friends and family and there's some cools gun groups you can join. I have one called "The Pistoleros", it's for duelists and all about cowboy shooting. Check it out!

There's all kinds of other groups that are gun related, Wheel Gun Fun, SASS is on there as well as a bunch of local cowboy clubs.

Facebook is what you make of it, I scroll past crap I don't like and I also UNFOLLOW anyone with a political opinion that offends me.

I blocked a cousin of mine when she said she hoped Trump would get the Covid and die!!

Wife has a Facebook account so that she can get pictures of the grandkids. Whenever FB adds a new feed because they think she might be interested in it she just reports it as irrelevant and it disappears. The snooze for 30 days feature works really well. She gets lots of friend requests from people we shoot with and some of my extended family. She just ignores them.  A couple of people have asked her about it and she explains that she is only interested in pictures of the grandkids and not interested in politics, jokes, memes, or pictures of other peoples food.

I have a FB account, added about 100 friends and family, locked down the privacy settings, and never used it again.

I do know lots of people post good memes on it, but the best of those show up on forums like this one anyway.

I took a break about 2 years ago and never looked back.  I do miss keeping up with the guys I served with, but I don't miss all the stupidity.  So now I'm off FB, stopped watching the NFL after Kappernick decided the anthem was a good time to protest, and have recently stopped watching the news other than the weather.  At this point if it weren't for SASS I'd probably be a hermit  :FlagAm:

People I’m connected to on FB are spreading the lies of Socialism.  I know that sort of makes me seem that a Comey Hunter, but when they almost run a Socialist as President through the Dem Party, I’m starting to get concerned.  When they post lies, I have to correct and present facts.

I use FB for the gun, and cowboy and dog groups. If I don't like what someone posted I skip over it. Free country you can post what you want if it makes you feel better that's a good thing but being a free country I don't have to read it. Its like life, pick the good stuff and ignore the bad.

I enjoy FB. There are ways of dealing with people.

1. Unfollow/Turn off Notifications: They are still friends; but you rarely see their posts. I use this for people who use too many profanities (not yet over my limit) or post an excessive number of times a day.

2. Block: They are not friends or have insulted me. Went over my limit of F-bombs. Spew hate. You never see their posts and they never see yours.

3. Mark as Best Friends: You always see their posts.

4. Mark as See First: Their posts are always first in your feed. (Michele Hunter, AKA Velvet Glove is mine.)

Facebook.   It's all in where you go.  It's just like a TV.  if you don't like the channel (or page) you're looking at, change the channel.

There are some good Cowboy Action Shooting pages, Historic Firearms pages, Old West Clothing pages, and all sorts of special interest pages.

If you get bogged down in politics and such, it's because you choose to.   Just like you don't have to watch TV News.

Facebook is what you make of it.    Facebook "news" is about 99% fake news from both sides of the political spectrum and I block most of those sites.

I block many of the political pages, mostly left, but some right as well.  I've "unfollowed" some distant family members because our views on certain subjects is too far apart.

For me it is a place to post funny pictures and keep with friends and some family who are too far away to see on a regular basis.

I have what I consider a fairly limited number of "friends." There are plenty of people that I haven't accepted friend requests from simply because I want to limit my contact to people I really wish to interact with. The problem is that the past couple of months, and even more so recently, everyone is in an uproar. I'm one of those people who tends libertarian just enough so that I can strongly agree with everyone I know on many subjects, and strongly disagree with the same people on different subjects. That being the case, I've learned to try to limit myself to those discussions that aren't overly political or divisive. That is nearly impossible these days, it seems.

I went from several hundred 'friends' to less than 50, and all are either family or people I know and like already.

A number of them are overseas, so having a non real-time way to communicate is helpful.

I have about 15 Fb groups that are sharing photographs of places I've lived or like, plus one or two about

things like night time photography and long exposure photography. No politics or news groups - don't need

that on Fb.

I like that I can share things with family and friends, and even message them to set up a Video Telcon, and talk

in real time.  Messages and posts in Fb have presistance, folks can find them days later, unlike leaving a voice

mail on a phone.

It's a GIGO machine, so best to filter the garbage before it even gets in.

I understand there are all sorts of issues with various 'social media' censoring and manipulating, but I suspect that

soon these will either become under common carrier rules or be converted into 'publishing' which will address that.

For me it's no biggie - I don't do business on them.

YMMV,

Shadow Catcher
