Alpo
I was trying to remember the name of a drug. It was quite popular in the 80s. I remember some comic explaining that you could get the exact same reaction by taking a 2 lb ball pein hammer and smacking yourself between the eyes. My mother's dog was scared of loud noises and she had a prescription for this drug that she would give the dog on Independence Day and New year's Eve. Fireworks. Based on those two memories, I deduced that this drug was a tranquilizer. I decided I would do a search for "illegal drugs", and see if I recognize the name from a list. I found this site. https://www.centeronaddiction.org/addiction/commonly-used-illegal-drugs There are no downers listed on this site. None. No tranquilizers, no sleeping pills. Weird. Oh, and while I was writing this, I remember the name of the drug that started my search. Quaaludes.

Cat Brules
The drug I believe you are thinking of is called “Valium”. But maybe that was earlier than the 1980’s......? The Rolling Stones wrote a song about it called “Mother’s Little Helper“. Cat Brules
