What are these grips made of?

I'm not an expert on 1911 grip panels by any stretch, but these look to me to be more in line with some sort of polymer or other synthetic material based on the coloring alone.  I've never seen wood with that pattern or coloring.

They could be stabilized spalted buckeye burl also. Without seeing the entire grip it’s hard to tell. This picture is the buckeye burl.
