1851 London Colt Navy

Recommended Posts

Been trying to find out why Colt built his 1851 "London" Navies using steel backstraps and trigger guards as opposed to brass.  Looked everywhere and can't find a reason why.  Anybody?

I’ve wondered about that myself.
I would sure like to know the answer, too.  Maybe I’ll do a little research now myself.

Sam Colt was a savvy business man.  I suspect the steel grip frame on the Navy London model was cheaper to make in England than a brass grip frame.  Just guessing, no references.
