Block walls for shooting bays

Our club is looking at replacing the dirt berm between two of our bays with a block wall (aka mafia block or Jersey barrier).  I know that the club where the NJ State shoot is held has a number if not all of the bays with block walls on the sides and I believe the back.  Do you have to line the wall to prevent splatter, chipping or ricochet's?  We are only considering doing the sidewalls at this point.  Do the targets need to be a certain distance from the sidewalls in order to not have the above issues?  What about your loading and unloading tables?  Care and maintenance?  Any hints, suggestions, etc?  Thanks. Roper - look at the pictures of the ranges re: block walls... https://cjrpc.org/?

* The long range & general purpose ranges  are separated by side wall block

* Not clearly shown,( look closely to the right in the picture ) but the 11 pit walls are separated by side wall blocks

None of the walls are covered to prevent splatter

Yes. The targets on the long ranges are in the middle of the ranges. In the pits, the targets are placed directly straight to the back dirt berms to prevent splatter and angled bullets impacting the walls

What about your loading and unloading tables?

Both tables in the pit ranges are up against the side walls with a substantial distance back from the firing line

Care and maintenance?

None to speak of but there are always club members that can't shoot directly to the targets in front of the back berms

Suggestion: On the side walls of each berm and range - mark the distance from the firing line in increments to the back berms

RR if you remember last year at WR we have concrete or block on some of the stages on the east end of the range they have wood covering the concrete behind the loading and unloading table to eliminate splatter in case of an AD.

The concern of an accidental discharge at the loading or unloading table came up in Pelham, NH for the Nor' Easter, the walls in the micro bay's are concrete.  If we had continued the Regional, the cowboys would have had to build and install 10 backstops of 2x4 and plywood to keep a ricochet or chunks of concrete from coming back off the wall in case of an AD.

The blocks do a nice job overall, they do not take up as much of a footprint as a dirt berm, they are louder to shoot in, ask Milo

You do have to be careful of shooting cross bay, and misses/splatter hitting them.

I can't remember where, but a club used the blocks, then covered the whole thing with wood planks, I'm sure it was costly, but looked nice, and the wood absorbs more of the splatter and stops it.
