New Zippo

Howdy,

I just got a new Zippo lighter, very nice....

Since about 1932 Zippo has used fluid that evaporated.

Well this is a little different.

It is two electric arcs and is filled from the side of my laptop computer.

And this is the insert which can fit into your favorite Zippo standard case.

Check it out on zippo.com or ebay.

Oh ya the price is around 20 bucks.

No lighter case is included, it fits the standard case.

Why do they print the directions so stinkin small??

They insist you read them and print them in microscopic text.

Isnt there a SASS Zippo case?

I don't think it would do for what I need.

Would it set a piece of paper on fire? Light a candle? Melt the end of a piece of shroud line? Start the tinder burning in a campfire? Throw a little light during a blackout?

Would it light a pipe?

A car cigarette lighter will light my cigarette or my cigar using electricity, but that's pretty much all it will do. Will this do more?

My Dad gave me  a couple of these a few years ago; plain black chrome cases, no maker's name, no marking other than at the charging port.  Format and print face of printed instructions suggests China as point of origin.

I don't smoke anymore, and the design is not much good for anything other than cigarettes; there is no tall flame, just two electric arcs in a small opening.

Howdy,

For lighting candles this works great.

I rolled up some paper and just touched it and the paper was really burning.

With buring paper most any campfire should burn too.

I haven't tried line...

And its not meant for lighting rooms.

Light a regular Zippo for long and it gets too hot to hold.

What interests me is how long it will hold a charge.

A week or month or year?

I got an arc lighter last year because my wife doesn’t like using matches or Bics to light her decorative candles. It works just fine on candle wicks.

I had a classic Zippo I brought back from Vietnam. It had my name and a 7th cavalry crest engraved on one side and a Huey on the other. But I lost it one night. I’m embarrassed to say how. :(

I still need a lighter around the ranch for lots of stuff, not smoking, but I just carry a cheap butane.

Howdy,

Sorry to hear about the loss of any combat keepsakes.

I still have some of my Dads.

Those bics are fine too.

I just find the new changes interesting.

A SASS zippo with computer age innards could be pretty cool.

ps the Zippo folks also have super matches.  They call tornado matches.

Light one put it in a bucket of water pull it out and still lit.

I got to get some.
