What’s sad is after all that effort, the Oklahoma sank anyway after breaking her tow on the way to the breakers in CA. Maybe that’s fitting.

My Dad was the officer of the day on the California that day, and he was the last man (alive) taken off the ship.

I am an atomic veteran. Our local high school asks me to talk about bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There usually is a girl that says don't you think that the A bomb was terrible?

I tell that soft headed lefty: "My Godfather was a surgeon with the 1st Marine Division to invade Tokyo, my favourite Uncle was on a minesweeper clearing Tokyo harbour, and my Dad's destroyer was my uncles escort. They could have been among the one million Americans that would have been killed in the invasion.

If the Japs were about to kill your Daddy like mine, we could drop one thousand A bombs to save his life.

I remember reading how the war in the Pacific could have lasted another 10+ years without the atomic bombings.
I've read about the torture of American POWs with glass rods jammed up their man parts, then smashed, for a lifetime of misery.
I've read the Rape of Nanking where they whored the women until they literally died from it, and replaced them with more.
I also understand the occupying forces found many canisters of Antrax ready to be parachute dropped onto our West Coast.

When they cut my Dad out of the California, he told me about walking across the deck on the guts and the brains of what used to be his shipmates.

Nope.
No sympathy whatsoever.

My dad would have been  part of Operation Olympic  ( I had thought Coronet, but I just looked up the Order of Battle) in the 3rd Marine Division.  When I get into a discussion with someone whining about "all those Japanese civilians killed by The Bomb" I point out that many of us, likely she herself, would not be here today.  I also point out that there would be tens of millions of Japanese not alive today if the estimated 3,000,000 or more Japanese civilians had been killed in the invasion of the Home Islands, and ask why would you prefer millions of dead civilians?

The "C" in gunnery sergeant stands for compassion.

To err is human

To forgive is divine

Neither of which is Marine Corps policy.

Join the Marine Corps

Visit exotic lands

Meet interesting people

And Kill them.

So much for my concern about anyone trying to kill my Daddy.

Using logic on a lefty is like trying to put a dress on a squealing pig in a pen. A complete waste of your time.

I grant the point that the radiation effects on those left alive at Hiroshima and Nagasaki were horrific.  But these "dropping those bombs was so bad" types don't think about the 100,000+ killed in one night in Tokyo by 21st Bomber Command's incendiary raid, or the British raid on Dresden and other places.  War IS HELL!  And ending it as quickly as possible saves lives in the long run.

Stay well, Pards!

I find people are Leftists today for a few reasons:

• Sex: infidelity, promiscuity, homosexuality, abortion
• Drugs: personal or family user
• Socialism: Big Government to run our lives

There is no logic with any of the above... why bother.

Here's the National Guard version:

Join the Army National Guard

Visit exotic lands

Meet interesting people

And Kill them

But only on weekends.

Of course Desert Storm and subsequent events have drastically changed the reserve component's role and from what I have heard, anyone joining the National Guard or Army Reserve is pretty much guaranteed to spend at least a year on an overseas in a combat zone.  However that may be change as the U.S. reduces it's presence in the Middle East.
