Richard Pennebaker?  I think that’s his name.

Goodbye, Little Richard   Thanks for being there for us.

Sassparilla Kid and I saw him in '08 at Fresno's Rock 'n' Rod Revival.

We were late getting there and missed out on Big Brother and the Holding Company and George Thorogood, darnit.  The Kid had been hiking with his Scout troop in Yosemite, and were trapped for a while when somebody's truck burned in the tunnel.

But we got there in time for Little Richard!  Even back then, though a much more youthful 75, he still had to be helped onto the stage and to his bench by two husky aides.

The man seemed very personable, and spoke to the audience for quite a while - including noting that with the passing of his friend Bo Diddly less than two weeks before, his generation of musicians were mostly gone. His performance was magnificent!

Aside from which, he had a great sense of humor and always seemed to be a gentle and caring soul.  Sorry you were creeped out, Pat.  I always just thought that was L'il Richard not taking himself too seriously.

He once described himself as "the black Liberace."  Heaven must be a jumping place with both of them playing there.
