Recommended Posts

Looking for a 9mm convertible cylinder for a 3-screw Blackhawk. Cosmetic condition unimportant.

Yep. A lot of folks think the convertible didn't come around until '73, with the introduction of the New Model Blackhawk. The last one I saw on an auction site for a 3-screw went for a whopping $210. A couple folks must have wanted it pretty bad, as I've never seen one go that high before. I've seen them with guns dating as early as 1958.

What's the difference between the cylinder on a transfer bar Blackhawk and a 3 screw Blackhawk?  I'm just curious.

I suppose saying, "They're not the same size" isn't sufficient, so I got a couple out of the safe to measure -

3-screw

Overall length, ~1.850"

Length of cylinder body w/o star & basepin boss, ~1.602"

Diameter, ~1.674"

New Model

Overall length, ~1.966"

Length of cylinder body w/o star & basepin boss, ~1.643"

Diameter, ~1.725"
