I cut the sleeve off a short sleeve t-shirt. Cut from just shy of the neck band  to 3 or 4 inches below the armpit seam. You pull it over your head and it stays in place well. Tuck the excess into your collar. Used them on dusty jobs in the past. Machine washable.

I found the quickest way was to use one of the regular masks

How to Sew a Surgical Face Mask | Sweet Red Poppy

and then pull my buff over my nose. Fast and efficient.

You can tuck a folded coffee filter in there for extra protection.
