Stuff in short supply

Recommended Posts

We make fun of the tp and other paper and sanitizer shortages. But what else is short?

pasta and flour of all types.

sewing machines, the shelves which normally see a few sales a week are empty.  Amazon has a three week delay, which means the machines from China are offered.

also fabric and thread, especially black and white.

it’s gonna take a while to get the supply pipelines running again.

Sewing machines? That's weird. I can see pasta and flour shortages but sewing machines is something I would have never thought of.

Perhaps people decided to finally get into those hobbies they have put off for years...

People are sewing masks to give away.

Starting to see flour, sugar, and, pasta but yeast is very scarce and is going to be for a while.  Actual production cannot be sped up as yeast only grows so fast. However, the real bottleneck is packaging. The plants that make yeast either cannot get the materials needed to make packaging or if they have the material the machines are running at full capacity.

Watch your milk, coffee and beef prices in the near future as processing plants close.  Milk & egg prices are also on the rise since they are dumping milk.  Finally we had a bad (wet) 2019 harvest so some crops rotted in the fields, & some of this years harvest is being plowed under because of the shelter orders so there is no-one to help with harvesting winter crops so those will also be going up and no income coming in.  Well there you have it, a first glance of socialism at work.

Also making them to sell.

i asked my friend how many running sewing machines she has, she confessed maybe seven including some I gave her when I downsized, and another 8 or so antiques that actually run. And more, I am sure

PS: she has sold more than 300 masks so far.

I have 7.  Some are antiques and some I use.  There are a couple of purpose built as well.

I tried to go into the local large chain fabric store for thread.  Sewing masks has depleted my supply of fabric thread. (Most of my thread is for embroidery which won't work well for sewing garments.)  Their shelves are BARE.  Almost no quilting or 100% cotton fabric to be had, AT ALL.  Some apparel synthetics but even that is sparse.

If you are interested in some cotton fabric, I have a couple of internet sources that I can send you.  Their wait time isn't too bad, right now.  They are starting to run low also.  I tend to stick to the local quilt stores so I can keep them in business.  Unfortunately, they have been forced to close due to the lock down.  I hope they are still in business when this is all over.

On the plus side: Kaya just went to a local gunshop and they had all the shot, wads, primer and powder she needed.

Hmmmm. I wonder if they would have had all that stuff for ME? They kinda melt when she walks in......

I was talking with neighbors this morning.   This is their first experience living in the country so they are trying to be farmers. He had ordered baby chicks before this insanity started.  He got them a few weeks ago and they are growing fast. Problem is,  in a couple of weeks, he's going to need a freezer.  No new ones to be found.  Used ones on Creigslist are bringing new prices.

That's probably the situation with my local shops.  Since the state shut don the gun stores they've probably had time to restock their shelves.

I too have a freezer half full of game meat.  With CAS matches shut down I think I'll grow a vegetable garden.  Fresh zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumbers would be tasty.

It is.  Jenny made one of mine with ties.  I told her to use left over fabric. This was leftover scraps from the doggie-diapers.

Well done.  A number of people at work are making those.  I prefer this style as it give a little more protection.

Plenty of hogs and cattle in the country. Some pork producers are considering killing their hogs because they can't get anything for them. The problem is that the processing plants are closed or short staffed.
