Jeb Stuart #65654
I have a Taylors 1865 Spencer 56-50 that I'm having a few issues with. Does anyone out there work on these? Thanks in advance.
Tommy Reb
Jeb, check the Spencer Shooting Society on the CAS City Forum. Lots of useful Spencer info there. Someone there can likely recommend a Spencer mechanic. With some guidance from that forum, I worked on my own Chiappa Spencer and have it running nicely now. Out of the box, mine was prone to occasional stove pipe feeds and the trigger was horrendously heavy. The trigger return part of the mainspring is now a mere wisp of its former self and the trigger is nice at 2.5 pounds. I did use up two cartridge feed cams before I finally got the shape just right so that feeding is now 100% reliable. If you decide to do your own work, I recommend having a extra mainspring and a couple of feed cams before you start. Taylor's has the parts. If you have specific questions about your gun, I would be glad to try to help. TR
