Finally Got 'Em All.. and the Ranges are Closed

Yesterday at 10am.. I was 3rd in line at my LGS.
He had 'em all ready for pickup after the 10 day waiting periods.
$50 each for FFL, all three on a single $40 background check fee.

The Charles Daly I got from Deuce is FAR nicer than it looked in the photos.
And.. it is a very high (late production) serial number.
So far, I cannot find any dating or model identification data for the Miroku Daly.

I understand Doc Noper did the slicking work... very very clean work.
Deuce had it done for his kids, but he bought another house, and is moving...

The 2nd OM Bisley Vaquero 44 mag joined its twin brother and I added a Uberti 1873 carbine also in 44 mag.
Yesterday I stood in line at Sporstmans to pick up two bricks of shotgun primers.

It has been a full year plus 15 days to get this all put together.

And now our range is closed and the matches are cancelled.
Bummer (for now).

The 1873 was not without some consternation....
It came out of the box with a good ding in the underside of the buttstock.

I called Uberti and found out this is a 2014 gun that has been in stock at Kentucky Gun Co since it left the distributor.
The good news, Uberti tells me there are zero production changes between 2014 and 2020 rifles.

I won't send it back for warranty repairs, because I don't think Stoeger can do as good a job as Uberti at fitting a new stock.
If they replace the gun, it is another $100 in FFL and background check fees, and another 10 days wait.

I figure I will just live with the ding.
No rust found anywhere.
And.. that 1873 action is so smooooth....

Howdy,

A small bit of cloth with some water, placed right over the ding.

And put it in the sun so the wood warms.

Repeat from time to time and you probably will see

the ding raise a little.

Don't put any sort of wax or sealer on the ding.

The cells of wood have been bent and the water can unbend it

given time.

And the cost is about zero....

Best

CR

be patient.....

Congratulations on getting all your firearms, and it took you only a little over a year. Do you have your gun belt and holsters, your shotgun belt, your gun cart and all the clothing you need for whatever category you will be shooting?

As for me, my anniversary date for SASS is May 21st. I now have everything I need, but I've already changed my shotgun from a 97 to a SxS and I will be replacing my Henry rifle with a Winchester 73 very soon. I'm shooting .357 in both my NM Vaqueros and Henry, my 73 will also be .357.

Noticed our SASS numbers are only 147 numbers apart.

^^^ what Pat said.

I have seen videos on YouTube before that folks used an iron to steam a dent out; though most of the time it was on an unfinished stock that had stripped for refinishing.

P.R. I will drag out the camera and shoot a hi-res of the dent.

I'm going to start with the Chilli Ron dent removal method first... slower, no steam iron risk.

A.G. we have everything except the gun cart... need to get that built, but the lockdown might be an issue.
My bride is all set up with leather and her pair of SASS Vaqueros.
I also have all leather for OM Bisleys.
I have 105gr light loads for her.

We have a factory stock Marlin 1894CB, in 357.
The  Deuce SxS, just arrived and is all slicked up and ready to rock.

The 44s and 1873 are "spares" for "just in case...."  ;)

Attached is the Longshot Logan guide to stock refinishing.  I doubt that steam would be effective if your stock is still varnished.
