Howdy,

Ive heard all sorts of numbers on the price of a surplus US army 45.

Does anyone have a catalog or receipt or other real info

on the price of a 1911   45  around 1955 or  so?

Just a nice old surplus 1911 and not some pristine collector piece.

Thanks aheadotime.

Any GI 1911 in decent condition will fetch at least 850 with most going for 1,000 plus.

Howdy,

I guess I wasn't too clear on the question but Alpo, that's ezzactly what I wanted.

Thanks.

I told someone this and he said the 1911 was never that cheap.

Of course those were SILVER dollars which are bringing much more today.

Seems silver dollars are worth a bottom price of 15 each today.

So 35 times 15 is 525. That doesn't bring in any coin collector values.

Inflation is a monster.

I recall as a young boy, I saw an ad on the back of a comic book for surplus M1911’s for $17.00.  I never saw them cheaper after that  I had saved up my money, saw the ad and tried to get my dad to use my money and buy me two of them.  Nope.... wouldn’t buy me one of them, even though I was very familiar with the M1911.  He said they were probably all junk, and didn’t want me to spend hours trying to make one good gun out of two.

My ex-father in law had a 1911 that (as he told me in the early 70"s) he had received in a $5.00 NRA "grab bag " sale.Supposedly you sent them the money and they sent you some random gift that was worth at least $5.00.

Pretty sure he got his money's worth.
