Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
We've lost another. Wilbur Richardson, Ball Turret Gunner. "Wilbur Richardson was a real American hero; a highly decorated WWII Combat veteran: Purple Heart, DFC / Distinguished Flying Cross just to list a few. He flew 30 Combat Missions as a Ball Turret Gunner in a B-17 named ‘KISMET’ with the 94th Bomber Group out of Bury Saint Edmunds England. He was severely wounded on his 30th mission." I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Wilbur during a trip to the Planes of Fame museum in Chino back in '04, and spent quite a while visiting with him. During subsequent visits over the years I'd had several opportunities to talk with Mr Richardson - he was extremely knowledgeable, open, and warm; a most delightful member of America's Greatest Generation. Vaya Con Dios, Gunner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8Ez65pXl38 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUwrJKu8W70
