T
he amphibious assault ship USS America, the first in her class, is on patrol in the Pacific with a full deck of Marine airpower, including F-35Bs, and a hull full of Marines and their gear. One thing that caught our eye in recent photos of the ship at sea is the massive flag she is flying above her island superstructure—one that depicts the symbol on Captain America's iconic shield.

Stan Lee.....
That made me remember just right now.
Years ago, as a young teen in the early 1960’s, I carried on about an 18-month-long  correspondence (letters) with Stan regarding (mostly) the new-at-the-time, Spider-Man character and comic book, including the other characters, the plots, and panels, etc. in the Spider-Man comic book.  Stan would answer my questions, ask me questions and discuss all kinds of Marvel stuff.  I never told anyone, and I still have those letters from him in one of my boxes around here somewhere.  Hmmm.

That’s pretty funny...and cool. My Captain would have never allowed something like this. I am pretty sure he had a stick firmly planted up his posterior.

Check out the other hoisted flags.

The white with blue square means:   Conducting Flag hoisting drill

The other one looks to be:   You are running into danger (but I can't clearly see it).

P.S. - I got my info from Google.  Heck, I never could remember flag meanings...

But as a Radioman, I could read those tickler tapes.   Actually, I was probably one of the

best tape readers (both chad and chadless) of any command I was stationed.

I suppose the skipper would technically be "Captain America."

Actually..... Yes.

When boarding or departing, the speaker system will announce... "AMERICA ARRIVING"  (departing).

Thats how I remember it.
