Clint Eastwood, I'm shocked!

So here's one of our favorites and he's backing Bloomberg? Has he lost his mind? Senile maybe? Does he not realize that Bloomberg is the most anti0gun person on the planet?

Why Not?

One of the best tactical moves is to pretend you are the enemies good friend, knowing that

he will loose.   THEN switch tracks and support The Don.   The enthusiasm will gain news

attention and excite the voter base even more.

It will look like another win for the Trumper.

And, for all we know, it could just be more fake news.

I found this...............

Views on gun control[edit]

Despite being heavily associated with firearms in his Westerns and police movies, Eastwood has publicly endorsed gun control since at least 1973. In the April 24, 1973, edition of The Washington Post, the star said, "I'm for gun legislation myself. I don't hunt."[25] Two years later, in 1975, Eastwood told People magazine that he favors "gun control to some degree."[26] About a year later, Eastwood remarked that "All guns should be registered. I don't think legitimate gun owners would mind that kind of legislation. Right now the furor against a gun law is by gun owners who are overreacting. They're worried that all guns are going to be recalled. It's impossible to take guns out of circulation, and that's why firearms should be registered and mail-order delivery of guns halted."[27] In 1993, he noted that he "...was always a backer" of the Brady Bill, with its federally mandated waiting period.[28] In 1995, Eastwood questioned the purpose of assault weapons. Larry King, the television host and newspaper columnist, wrote in the May 22, 1995, edition of USA Today that "my interview with Eastwood will air on 'Larry King Weekend' ... I asked him his thoughts on the NRA and gun control and he said that while people think of him as pro-gun, he has always been in favor of controls. 'Why would anyone need or want an assault weapon?' he said."[29]

I have always thought that actors, athletes, musicians and entertainers should not be listened to in any regard when it comes to politics or people’s rights.

Think about it. You have an individual with a talent that has nothing to do with real life espousing their beliefs and feelings onto others that give them credence simply because the can bounce or throw a ball, run fast, play a mean guitar or they are attractive and can fool you with their abilities to “act” but not actually “do”.

I like Clint Eastwood’s characters but I doubt I would actually like him as a person. His political opinions are worthless to me. The last person I would ever trust in this world is a person that makes their living acting like something or someone they are not. Which is also why I distrust politicians...all politicians, not just the ones I do not agree with.

He is just another Hollywood hypocrite he made his living with guns but actually hates them.

He is like most every other actor that spent his life mouthing words and thoughts that came from someone else in his pretend world

I've always liked Clint. He's made many really great movies. Not only that, for those to whom the politics of movie stars is important (a surprising number of SASS folks over the years!), he's not been bad politically, either.

My guess is that Clint is just vexed and bothered by some of the unusual antics and approaches of our Chief Executive, notwithstanding that said CE has done many good things.

I don't find this too hard to understand.

Why are people surprised when the real person is nothing like the characters they play? They’re actors.

I'm surprised because I always thought Clint was pro-gun! I guess I was wrong!

ηθοποιός. In Ancient Greek this meant "character-builder".  The old vernacular word is θεατρίνος, which is still around in its pejorative meaning of "drama queen; impostor".  Like the Ancient word for actor.

Oh, what's the Ancient word for actor, you ask?

hypokritɛ́ːs.

You recognise that word, don't you?

Actually I thought the same until a few  years ago when I heard him comment about gun control which prompted me to look up some of the things he has said in the past about guns and gun control. I was surprised that he wasn't as "right wing" as I had been lead to believe. A sheep in wolf's clothing....

I have a poster of him as Josey Wales, I think I may just toss it in the trash! I don’t want to have to see his face anymore!

The political and social elite couldn't care less about gun rights as it will never affect them. Think it's hard to get a handgun carry permit in New York City? Do some research and find out just how many celebrities have a NYC gun permit, including many who are well-known gun control supporters.

I just chalk it up to good acting...On and off the screen. I still like his old movies but he hasn't seen a dime of my money in years. I refuse to see his newer stuff and I do not watch his older stuff on Netflix or Amazon. That way he gets no "residuals" from me.

Do they actually get "residuals" from places like Netflix, Amazon or others? Always wondered about that. I'm not surprised that he is not pro-gun, I've read the quotes from him concerning gun control. What does surprise me is the Bloomberg endorsement but it shouldn't really. The Hollywood crowd, including Eastwood, is all a bunch of self serving egomaniacs just like Bloomberg.

Bloomberg concerns me but not as much as Sanders. All of these young young people and millennials actually believe the Socialism crap, probably because they didn't experience the cold war or have any knowledge of the Socialism failures from the past. All Bloomberg wants is a power and is a control freak. Sanders actually believes in Communism.

If Sanders wins, God forbid, he wouldn’t be able to get any if his crap by the Senate anyway. If the Republicans take the house he has even less of a chance.

Eastwood doesn't like Trump.

I don't like Trump.  I think Trump's a jerk.

But, I like Trump's conservative policies.

I understand why less conservative folks, like Eastwood, would vote for a liberal.

I get that but I thought Clint was more conservative than he is. I thought he was more pro gun so backing Bloomberg and his rabidly antigun agenda really shocks me and disgusts me! Clint’s rich and 89 I guess he could care less.

CAPT Obvious here....have you ever noticed that all these anti-gun big wigs have armed body guards and live in areas with private security?

For the same reason why they often have concealed carry permits in cities and states where peasants like us can't get them. They fear for their safety, what with the risk of obsessed fans and all, but apparently we are not allowed to fear for ours.

Yep, they do, but it’s a convoluted thing involving the studios, the actor’s guild, the unions and the actors. I could not find a straight answer.

I sometimes wonder whether the pards who try to make sure their pennies don't go to movie stars whose politics they don't like check on the politics of the neurosurgeon or other expert operating on their direly ill family member. Or do they just want the best?

Eastwood has made some great Westerns, and great non-Westerns. As far as the politics of actors go, to the (tiny) extent it matters, his have been pretty good over the years. What has he done, is the question, not what he believes.

I suppose some people follow the politics of actors like others like to follow their love lives and clothing styles. Are there fan magazines or blogs that do that kind of thing? Seems like there must be...

Your comparison is pretty lame. An actor vs a neurosurgeon? Really?
