The 50's were long before my time, but what I "miss" most from the 1950s were the nice blued & walnut firearms from companies that hadn't yet gone bankrupt or gone to using cast, stamped, or powdered steel.

Otherwise, the only fads I know of were greased hair and large fins on automobiles. Oh, and westerns on TV. :D

Fond memories of my brother and I  building forts with our Lincoln Logs

and placing our Green Army Men :FlagAm:  in strategic locations  ,

and shooting rubber bands at them until surrender was inevitable.  :(

I got a pair of those when I was 7. I darn near didn’t make it to 8 because of those things.

“Pegging”?  You mean, “taking in” the seams of the legs and cuffing them?

I can identify with the skates thing.  The big kids on our street took us to the end of the block & pushed us down the hill where everybody had rock driveways.

And crenolines under those poodle skirts.  My cousin Kathy kept hers under the bed because they took up too much room in the closet.

penny loafers, rolled tee shirt sleeve with pack of smokes inside, duck's a$$ hair cuts, guys hair gel -  can't think of the name but can still smell it, some of the best looking cars ever made in late 50's, low cut converse white basket ball shoes. As I look back, growing up in the 50's was the greatest time ever.

I got my first skateboard.....

We lived at the bottom of a paved hill.

Too scary to stand at my age going super fast :o so I would lay face down on the skateboard and with a rock in each hand, I could not only steer but brake as well. Cool view too!

My sister still has hers: framed on a wall in her exercise room.   I think she bought them at State Hardware in Logan, Utah about 1956.

Butch Wax.

I never had low cut canvas shoes until the mid '90s or penny loafers ever (those were girls' footwear), but everything else on the list was mine.

My '57 was a four door sedan (210) in silver and white .  Worst car I ever owned.  Rust bucket, the "fans" on the sides kept coming off, couldn't keep the front end aligned, passenger sun shade would't stay up, and the back door left side window leaked like a screen door.

Traded it for a 1937 Packard hearse.

I wish I still had them both.

I had a four door also, blue and white. It was a great car! I wish I still had it too!

Of course, I was too young to drive in the '50s; but, I drove one in the '60s.

The song I remember best was  Shake, Rattle, and Roll. because my brother, who was eight years older would play it for my mom every Saturday and Sunday.

and duck and cover drills in school

I guess no one started a '60's fad but we had the duck and cover drills in the '60's also, especially in Florida. All that I can remember from the Cuban Missile Crisis is the constant sonic booms. We lived in Fort Myers at the time, in range of the Cuban missiles. Good for me that I was in a little kid bliss for that.

I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis.  I thought I would never see my dad again.
