I just stopped off at Walmart where I buy my STS shells cause they r normally $7 those are $9 at sportsman Warehouse. I know Walmart has stopped selling pistol ammo and 5.56 cause it's (assault rifle ) ammo right LOL. Stupid...anyway I just saw that Walmart had all STS and AA shells for $5. I bought the last 8 boxes they had out ...so check your Walmarts in Oregon

I use to make a trip to the Bass Pro Shop to buy my STS shells cause nobody seems to have them in stock.  Then one day I had a brain storm.  I went to my local gun store with one of my empty STS boxes and asked if they could order them.  The guy behind the counter started hem hawing around and then I told him I wanted several cases.  I guess he thought I just wanted a couple boxes.  Anyhow, he gave me a pretty decent price by the case and it saved me a 60 mile round trip to Bass Pro.

My local Walmart had STS 's for 5 bucks also. This time of the year they clearance out all there hunting stuff from last fall. They won't hold the stuff over till next fall like other places might. In fact, some of the items there clearancing out right now, will get restocked in month or two for turkey hunting. I've seen this pattern play out many times in the past 20 years. For instance I bought  a pair of camo cargo pants last week on clearance for 5 bucks, and I'm quite sure they'll have more in for turkey season. I'm not positive thats whats going on with the ammo, but I think thats a good possibility.

Walmart corporate months ago stated all handgun ammo and any 223/556 rifle ammo is also being phased out  at ALL stores!!

hunting and shotgun ammo will still be

carried at stores that have a market for it.

Mine closed out their handgun ammo at

50% off weeks ago!
I feel safer already!!

My local WalMart said they were phasing out all ammo except for shotgun ammo. I never go in there anyway. I stopped in against my better judgement to see it they had sale prices on ammo. They didn't, it was the same price as always and no big deals. I stopped shopping there when they changed their gun and ammo policy. I stopped going in Dick's too!

I shop my LGS, there's 6 within 10 miles of me and if I go 20-30 miles I can hit 3 or 4 more!;)

I haven't been back to WalMart since their change. Buffalo Arms is just down the street. I have no reason to shop where people like me aren't wanted1

I think Wally World operates just like the casino group—income per square foot.  If a square foot of dog toys generates more income than a square foot of shotgun shells—then it will be good-bye shotgun shells.  In the casino, slots make more per square foot than table games and the slots don’t have all the table employees require.

Remington is phasing out the STS shells and basically going to a smooth hull gun club

Sounds like more of the "Remington is Going Out of Business" rumors that have floated around for 10 or more years.

Care to specify the publication that printed that news?

Exactly the same "NEWS" was floated in late 2105, early 2016.   It proved to be COMPLETELY wrong then.

I've seen - as recently as last spring - news articles that specifically pointed out that the STS line was NOT being changed at all.  In fact, the news I've seen from Remington insiders recently say they liked the experiment they ran last year with Field and Clays shells so much, they are thinking of keeping ALL three of these target type 12 and 20 gauge loads (STS, GC, and F&C) in their catalog.

Good luck, GJ

I went to my local Walmart to order a box of 45-70 Federal power Shok ammo and was told it's no longer available. :(

Maybe that is a Wal-mart problem - and perhaps just your local Wal-mart at that.

It's available at a ton of the on-line retailers, including Midway.

There's a BIG difference between "it's no longer available"  and "we are not allowed to order that item".

Good luck, GJ

just what I was told about 2-3 years ago by a reputable source.

Well, it sure has come to fruition, huh?

I guess at some time in the future, Remington may discontinue STS loads.  But lots of things will change long before that does.  There, that's my prediction.

Good luck, GJ

I stopped by a local Wally World looking for some $5/box STS shells - there weren't any.  There was plenty of rifle ammo suitable for big game hunting and lots of promo-quality SG shells.  I bought a bore snake that I could not find at Sportsmans.  There is no evidence in my area the Wal*Mart will quit selling ammo.

Next time you go - if they have any Estate 1 oz 1080 fps or 1-1/8 oz 1045 loads - try a box. Have been shooting them in SKB & Baikal & they shuck fine in my guns.  About $5.58/box

I stopped in Wally Mart again, second time in a month yikes!. I wanted to check out what the ammo situation was. Lots of Win Steel shot and heavy target loads, some Federal in 20 gauge and lots of .22 ammo. They had  some 243 win and 5.56 but not much. The mgr of the dept. told me when they sell out of what they have they'll be nothing but .22's and shotgun ammo.

They had Winchester AA for same price...so I don't think it's a Remington thing.  No on the estates. I won't take the chance. I have a stoeger. I have been told they like estates. Mine didn't. But I have done some polishing since then. It would probably be just fine with the cheapos but it only takes one stuck she'll to cost you 3-5 seconds...

I purchased WInchester LNLR at 2 different Walmarts in Tucson February and March for $7.87 / box. That was the standard price no sales.

This just gives me more a motive (as if I needed more of a motive to stay out of this store) to support my local "Mom and Pop" gun store.  Of the three or four different "Wally's" that I've been in, none of the people, behind the desk, ever seemed to even know which end of the firearm the bullet came out of, much less answer any of my questions.  I don't blame them, they are just trying to earn some money to get by on, same as the rest of us.  They do what they are told, and work where they are told.

I do hope your local "Wally" is a lot better than the one's I have been to.  I hope my experiences are the exception, and not the rule.

My Two Bits.

In my travels I have found that the more rural the Wal-Mart the more likely they will sell ammo and guns.  I just avoid those type of stores and find my gun stuff at places that are truly a outdoor store.  My first choice will always be a mom and pop type of store.  Yeah I know they are cheaper in cost but it is always a circus in there, maybe I just go at the wrong times.  Actually the last gun I bought came from a feed store, got to love rural America.

Walmarts order a lot of stuff (including ammo) automatically by computer algorithms based on what sells at that store.  Stores that don't carry LNLR AA's probably never will unless you can find some savvy manager to order them.  Stores that do carry them will usually continue to do so if they sell.  The Wally World closest to me never has them but the next closest and the one closest to my mom always have them.  And yeah, always $7.87.
