The stalk is ribbed, like celery.

I know it's a weed.

The stalk is very juicy. The juice is sour.

When I was a kid we called this Indian Cane - possibly because it is red. And we chilled CHEWED it, all the time. Never had any ill effects.

Then it seemed to die out by the time I got out of high school. Hadn't seen any for years.

Then 3 or 4 years ago I see it everywhere.

The stalk is green with a light reddish tinge. There are joints every so often, like bamboo. The seed head is extremely red.

Anybody recognize it?

We don't care what it taste like.

Did you try to smoke any of it?   :lol:

P.S.  actually, it looks like the stuff that grows wild back on my neighbors farm among the Thistle weeds.

To me, its rag weed, but I'm sure that ain't the name of it.

..........Widder

What Sam said. Looks like the sour dock that we get around here in wet fields.

Why do people drink lemonade? Eat sweet and sour candy?

Because it was good.

Maybe tart is a better description than sour.

The plant has a long history of medicinal properties and rich in Vitamin C.  As with any herbal do your research.
