WOLFY
Hi, Thinking on shooting a wild bunch side match. I only reload 38 and 44 as of now (reluctant to start a new caliber). Who are the CAS ammo makers people like. I checked out buffalo bore, but they only make 45 acp ball. Thanks in advance.

Sedalia Dave
Cimarron Bullets make an excellent 230 grain Hy-Tek coated bullet that feeds flawlessly in 1911s.

Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Choice ammo who advertises on the SASS main web page sells what you are after. (This is not an endorsement. I load my own.)
The Original Lumpy Gritz
Why are you scared about loading a new caliber. I've been loading .45acp fo over 50 yrs. It's easy..... OLG
Three Foot Johnson
If you're going to shoot ONE match and call it good, you're still looking at 4 boxes of ammo - 28+ rounds per stage = 168+ rounds for a 6 stage match. Some stages or matches will use more than 28 rounds per stage, and a lot of side matches will be only 3 or 4 stages, instead of 6, so it can vary. A 250 pack from Choice Ammo is $127.99 - currently on sale for $98.99 - or $26.99 per box of 50, plus shipping of course. A set of Lee dies can be had for around $35, shipped, and a 500 count box of HiTek coated bullets is $51 + flat rate shipping, so around $60, shipped. $255.98 + shipping for 500 rounds of factory ammo vs. $95 for dies & 500 bullets to load your own, assuming you already have an appropriate powder. If not, add another ~$25 for a pound of powder. Bullseye, W231, Unique, and WST are very popular, and there are several others that will work fine too. Hoss
I’ve had good luck with these. I only shoot 1 maybe 2 WB matches a year. https://goodtogoammo.com/product/45-acp-230-gr-red-viper/

Since you’ve been reloading it: What’s the story with crimping 45acp, no crimp? light crimp?
Happy Jack, SASS #20451
45ACP headspaces on the case mouth. VERY light taper crimp only.

Taper crimp-you want the case mouth to just start to dig into the bullet's wall Use WW231 powder at 5.5gn for 200-220 grain lead bullets. Get a Dillon case gauge......... Dude Slade
The correct answer regarding the crimp is to taper crimp until the mouth of the case meets the spec for the cartridge. For .45ACP, this measurement is .473 inches. This is not something you want to eyeball, since it's critical to the correct operation of the gun. Use your calipers. Once you lock down the crimp die with the right amount of crimp, you're good to go.
Major BS Walker Regulator
Georgia Arms and Ammo sells two different 45ACP loads in lead. Just picked up 800 rounds a few weeks ago to try some Wild Bunch before buying dies and bullets.

If you choose to reload 45acp, buy one of these chamber checkers. They are available through Dillon, Midway, many other suppliers or direct. https://www.egwguns.com/ammo-chamber-checker-45-acp-7-hole
