It aint levitating.  It's got a post welded to the side and he's wearing a spring steel clip on his belt. 

 

The barrel is a lot heavier than it looks. 

 

I believe a lawman in the old west had a rig like that for his pistol, but danged if I can remember what it was called.

The Bridgeport Device was a two piece belt clip and special screw that fit the left side of a SAA.  Might have made them for other guns but I never saw one.

 

The clip was riveted to the belt.  I t had a slot for the huge head of the screw to fit into, and the gun just hung free. They weren't very popular, but Dixie Gun Works sold repros of them about 40 years ago and" I just had to have it."  About $7.00 bucks ( I could buy a lot of things for that amount back then.  They are probably in the $75.00 bracket now.)  I sold it to a frat brother for what I gave for it because he "just had to have it."
