Yellowhouse Sam # 25171
Somehow an upgrade slipped in and now everytime I click to open a new tab ads either pop up within that tab or a whole new tab appears wanting me to subscribe or buy something. I can't seem to find the right switch in google settings to prevent all this garbage. Anyone????
Cliff Hanger #3720LR
maybe this. . . Chrome Select Settings from the Chrome menu. Search 'Pop' Click Site Settings. Click Pop-ups and redirects. Toggle the Pop-ups option to Blocked, or delete exceptions.
Rattlesnake Slim
The free version of Adblock plus works great for me in Chrome, even on my Macbook.
Cliff Hanger #3720LR
I looked at the Free Adblock. Then I remembered I have been running that program on Firefox for a couple years now. Only thing I find annoying is the web sites that want you to turn it off before they let you on their site. Mostly news sites. Not a problem, there are other sites that carry the same news. Wayward Slim
I can't help much with Chrome. I dislike that browser with a passion. If you use Firefox (or even better use Pale Moon instead) with an adblocker look into the NoScript plugin. It will prevent sites from picking up your adblocker. Of course it also breaks a lot of other things with websites. For me its worth it to have some more control over my own browser again.
bgavin
I have zero love for Chrome, so I stick with Firefox. v71 has a nasty bug that trashes prints from the web, so I backed down to v70.0.1. The 32-bit browsers are a bit more stable than the 64-bit ones. AdblockPlus is the go-to addon for browsers. However, AB+ won't do squat about malware popups. If you suspect these, download the free version of www.malwarebytes.com and scan your machine. MWB is the first step I use when pulling bugs off customer machines. The free trial will time out after 14 days, then it just works as an on-demand bug scanner, but with no realtime protection. If you have a taste for dangerous sites, www.sandboxie.com is the ticket. I've been in SBIE since Day One. It is now freeware. This is a condom for your browser. Works perfectly.
