Alabama: Lifetime Carry Permit Legislation Assigned Committees

This week, legislation to create a new lifetime carry permit for state residents has been referred to committees in their respective chambers. Although no hearings have been scheduled, your voice of support early in the process will make sure we get these critical bills passed this session.

Please contact members of the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, as well as the Senate Judiciary Committee, and urge them to SUPPORT House Bill 39 and Senate Bill 47.

House Bill 39, sponsored by Representative Proncey Robertson, and Senate Bill 47, sponsored by Senator Randy Price, create a new statewide, uniform system to provide lifetime permits for qualified applicants at the cost of $200. For state residents over 65, the fee drops to $150. HB 39 and SB 47 are companion bills and we need both measures passed to secure passage of this critical legislation.

Most aspects of the current permitting process will not change. Individuals interested in obtaining a lifetime permit will apply at their local sheriff’s office for a background check and to fill out the appropriate paperwork.

Lifetime permits are something that citizens in other states enjoy – there’s no reason we can’t have this option in Alabama!

We must make our voices heard loud and clear on these bills to get them passed. This is an important change to the existing permitting system that will give law-abiding gun owners the option of deciding which route is best suited for their individual self-defense needs. This choice should be yours!

It’s time to stand up for the right to self-defense and let your elected officials know that you want these measures passed this session. Again, please contact members of the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, as well as the Senate Judiciary Committee, and urge them to SUPPORT House Bill 39 and Senate Bill 47.
