California: Senate Passes Gun Show Ban Legislation

Yesterday, the California Senate passed Senate Bill 281 by a vote of 27 - 11. SB 281 has now been transmitted to the Assembly where it will be assigned to committee for further consideration.

SB 281, sponsored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-11), prohibits the sale of firearms and ammunition on any property owned, occupied, operated or controlled by the 1-A Agricultural Association, which includes the Cow Palace.

The sale of firearms and ammunition are strictly regulated throughout California by both federal and state laws.  These laws apply regardless of whether the transaction takes place at a gun show or a brick and mortar shop.   Last year, in an NRA supported case, a federal Judge issued an injunction against the prohibition on gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
