Screw knife help

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of building my own screw knife. I've started with a old set of scissors that I made the tip into a flat screw driver.

My question is how to install a deer horn handle to the blade. Anyone have any suggestions I'd appreciate the help.

Also I have access to a complete machine shop so making things isnt a problem for me.

I general.- The faster the set time on epoxy, the weaker it is.

For high strength you should purchase 30 minute epoxy (It really takes 24 hours to cure completely but the working time is between 15 and 30 minutes depending on temperature.)

This is the product I use http://bsi-inc.com/hobby/slow_cure.html

It should be noted that this epoxy does not bond many plastics. Deer horn, no problem.

There are some much stronger industrial epoxys used by boat builders and others. They're available via the web.  Just Google industrial grade epoxy adhesives.

I cut the handle off of one half at the pivot hole and welded a steel shank to it. Then sandwiched it with two pcs. of oak and epoxied and pinned in place.
