Ellsworth does indeed have a museum. You can do a base tour, walk through their display aircraft (weather permitting) and tour a restored missile silo, not the usual launch bunker but the actual silo with a missile in place. Very sobering to see that big ba%^rd up close!

Also a nice restaurant down town in an old fire house, I don't recall the name. Good food.

The best things to see around Rapid City do not include much to do with Rapid City. It is just another town.

A stop should be made at Prairie Edge. Other than that and a couple gun stores and pawn shops I don't have much use for the place.

Mount Rushmore? I guess if you've never seen it it would be okay. It's to bad the mountain couldn't have been left alone. Same with the Crazy Horse monument but that's just me.

Driving and enjoying what's left of the scenery beats all the touristy and commercial stuff.

On the east side of town is a gun parts store called Jack First's. They have parts for a lot of antique firearms, some they manufacture some are original parts. If you want to see sporting goods store or gun stores they have several including Cabellas just north across interstate 90 from JF's also Scheels a little west by Sams club. Downtown out toward Bacon Park is a small gun shop called Roosters always a fun place to visit. There is a bigger gun store on the section of the main street running west thru town that I have forgotten the name of but it is not to far from Prairies edge on the south side of the street. I have always found RC to be a very interesting City to visit but I might be a bit biased as I misspent a couple of years of my early adulthood there. I also have a few relatives there.

Now a helicopter tour over the badlands, well how can you go wrong on that.

Made me so grateful I wasn't on foot.

Unless of course you have had bad experiences in such machinery.....

I'm in Sturgis. The weather is nice this week.....warm for this time of year. Should hit 40 today. First Stop Guns just a block from Prairie Edge. Go to Rushmore and Crazy Horse if you can. Ellsworth does have a museum. I think it's free. Custer State Park. You might get an up close look at some Buffalos. More breweries are opening up around town. Firehouse Brewery on Main also. You should be able to fill your time.  Jack First if you need parts, nothing else to see there. Not a gun shop anymore.....PARTS only.

Have a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Custer and Custer State Park but 4 hours wouldn't be enough time. If you like tourist trap stuff Keystone isn't far away.

Howdy,

Custer Battlefield. I stopped for a few minutes and stayed the day.

WARNING.  The tour is just amazing and please tip even if they don't want it.

Ask if Deernose is still there.
