Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
Speaking of Roy Underhill, I was on his show once, well maybe my hands made it. I never saw the episode. Back in 2000 he did a show with Mike Dunbar on making a chair. I assisted in bending a piece of oak.
Warden Callaway
We love watching Roy Underhill. Here is one of his early shows. A lot of his shows show up on YouTube but get knocked down after a bit. I expect they are all copyrighted.
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103
Now that's more interesting than I thought, just reading the title! My first thought was it was like a hatchet Granddad had. He said it was Abraham Lincoln's hatchet. He said it's had four or five heads and at least a dozen handles but it was sure enough old Abe's hatchet!

I would think that steaming the handle part would make it easier to assemble.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
I would think that steaming the handle part would make it easier to assemble. Steaming is good as far as making the wood temporarily flexible. Probably not practical for this application, though, as it will also cause the wood to swell - and as these are pretty precisely cut pieces, they likely would not fit when steamed.
