Howdy

I read that new tvs and computers come with cameras hidden in them.

Hackers can watch you or your kids or guests without you knowing.

Seems there is a real easy fix.

Open your owners manual, find the camera and put on a bandaid Over the lens.

Easy cheap and easy to change if you like.

Black electrical tape. At least it'll match the color of the tv.

If you have troubles finding the camera in the frame, use a flashlight and shine it straight at the frame and go around the frame.

You will see the camera as the light will go through the frame tinted plastic.

Don.t forget, there may also be a hidden microphone that is listening.

You don’t want them to have bleach their memories?

With the size of the cams they would see a line.

I was taking about for you to see, not the camera. The camera is blocked by the post it note.

One reason I cover the camera is years ago (2001?) a friend gave me a gift of a headset microphone and a pc camera so we could talk on line.
One Saturday we connected on line and talked for 20 minutes and then went about our business. While we were talking he showed me how to also use the text box that came with the service so that one could text PMs if others were on the conference call.
Later that day I decided to play a game so I grabbed a beer and my smokes and went in to play a shoot em up game.
As I was leaning back in my chair waiting for the game to spool up I hear a tinkle sound and on the computer screen I see a message from my friend that says:

Don’t lean back too far in that chair. It might tip. What kind of beer is that you’re drinking? Bass Ale?”

I couldn’t disconnect that camera and headset fast enough. I never responded. I deleted the conference call software and then called my friend to tell him a few things about what I didn’t appreciate.

Ever since I disable cameras and microphones on all my PCs and laptops.

Recently, at work, we suspended a nutty employee pending termination. A couple of times now he has tried to activate my PC via Skype. He tried with others as well. Not sure how he thinks he is going to see or hear anything as it takes people on both ends to activate a Skype conference but perhaps he is more computer savvy than I am. Most kids are... Anyway, my high dollar camera and microphone set up resides in a dark corner of my closet.
I do not do Skype.

Howdy,

Just remember that you might want to use that camera sometimes.

Its the hacking or invasion that is wrong.

If one uses black tape that's fine unless it falls off and you don't notice.

I covered the lens on my first laptop with black electrical tape, first time I brought it home.

I wasn't sure it could be remotely activated, but I was suspicious.

As a registered Sh** Disturber, after I saw the idea elsewhere, I changed the name of my in house network to "CSIS Surveillance: Vehicle 3, Node 6" * and I turn it off and on as needed.

I can't wait to hear the whispers around the neighbourhood.

* CSIS is our junior version of the CIA
