Full Name: Tȟašúŋke Witkó
Profession: Native American War Leader

Nationality: Oglala Lakota

Why Famous: War leader of the Oglala Lakota who took up arms against the U.S. Federal government.

Together with fellow Indian Chiefs including Sitting Bull he led a war party to victory over George Armstrong Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876. 

Crazy Horse ranks among the most notable and iconic of Native American tribal leaders.

  • 1876-06-25 Battle of the Little Bighorn: US 7th Cavalry under Brevet Major General George Armstrong Custer wiped out by Sioux and Cheyenne warriors led by Chiefs Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull in what has become famously known as "Custer's Last Stand"
  • 1877-01-08 Crazy Horse and his warriors fight their last battle with the United States Cavalry at Wolf Mountain (Montana Territory).
