Alpo Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I remember a black stand-up - Chris Rock, I think. In his routine he told about how there's Mother's Day and the Mother's Day cards, and when there's a player that did something good on television and they stick a camera in front of him and a microphone and he says HI MOM. Everything's about Mom. And what does Dad get? The big piece of chicken. 1 Quote

And what does he get for all of that? The big piece of chicken. When I was a kid in Elementary School, I always thought that it was so wrong that we had class projects to make Mother's Day gifts, but never did anything for Father's Day since we were out for the Summer by then. 1 Quote

Alpo Posted November 11 Posted November 11 When I was in the 9th grade my brother was in the 10th grade and playing JV football. We were at one of the games. I don't remember if we went to all of the home games, but we were at this one, and we must have been playing the crosstown rivals because we were on the away team side. And we're sitting all the way up at the top of the bleachers. And I was bored. So I'm just looking around, and I looked behind us, and I could see the movie playing at the drive-in six blocks away. I obviously couldn't hear it, but I could see it, and it was more interesting than this dumb JV football game. I wonder why that story just came up out of memory? Hmmmm 🤔 1 1 1 Quote

Hmmmm 🤔 One time when I was on Guard Duty at Camp Pendelton we had a Training Call Out at about 8:00 at night. Where I wound up, I could see a drive in movie screen. I got to watch about the last 15 minutes of "The Car". 2 Quote

Hmmmm 🤔 I remember when our school took us on a "field trip" in 1971 to a collage football game in Tampa Stadium. It was Villanova vs ?. Anyway, the game was boring to me so I used my binoculars to watch Tora, Tora, Tora at a drive-in screen I could plainly see without even having binoculars. That drive-inn is long gone now, so is Tampa Stadium. Thanks for the flashback! 3 Quote
Ozark Huckleberry Posted November 11 Posted November 11 (edited) Back in the '80s, Jacksonville, FL had a drive in that showed (slightly sanitized) adult films. Coincidentally, it was on the approach path to one of NAS runways (depending on the wind). Certain pilots in the training squadron seemed pretty savvy about picking the best times to practice night approaches . . . . Edited November 11 by Ozark Huckleberry 2 2 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Years ago, near the Sonoma and Marin County line, there was a drive in theater just east of 101 (NOT "The" 101, dammit! Putting "the" in front of the number is a Southern California affectation from when freeways had names rather than numbers, and didn't catch on until the 1980s. Least wise, I never heard it growing up in San Diego County). You could easily see the screen when you were northbound on 101. Anyway, in the late '80s it went from just running an occasional X-rated film late at night to nothing but X-rated movies. Night time traffic was always slow on that stretch of road. 5 Quote
