Nothing like spending a drill weekend cleaning guns from the Vietnam era and in the case of the 1911's, from WWII. 

 

Using the issue Breakfree, the guns would go back into the armory clean and when the higher up's inspected the armory months later most of the weapons would have dirty barrels.

I couldn't tell you. The only zebco I recognize is a 202.

I was always told the closed face reels were more reliable but the open faced always seemed to work better for me. With the closed face I always seemed to end up with a knotted tangled mess

Externally the 33 was silver colored and the end caps were all metal with the body being made of pot metal.

 

The 202 was mostly bakelite plastic with metal bushings..

 

Internally the 202 had a serrated spinner head that grabbed the line; while the spinner head on the 33 was smooth with a little pin that retracted to allow casting.

 

It was also easier to feather the cast with the 33 and it had a much better drag.

I hated the Zebco closed face reels. I know a retention pond that has at least 2 of them in it. Probably pretty deep in the muck after 55 years though.

Before I made my post I did a search on a zebco 202, to make sure my memory was working correctly. And according to the zebco website the MSRP on a 202 is $14.99.

 

Then I did a search for a 33, which is also a spin casting reel. The MSRP on a 33 is $39.99.

 

Well if it costs more than twice as much, it obviously is much much better. So I can understand why the young man desperately wanted a zebco 33.

Popeil Pocket Fisherman - never forget!  Was at a business meeting at a golf resort in Florida, and one of the guys had brought one.  He cast a plug out into a decorative pond a couple of times and hooked a four foot gator.  He was having a great time reeling it in till it charged out of the water at him.   The gator was Fast but a chubby never an athlete middle aged business man proved to be faster, got into the condo.  The gator stopped at the steps.
