Alpo Posted June 11 Posted June 11 "Hands-only CPR". Never heard of that before, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that that means do the pushing down on the chest but don't do the breathing in the mouth. Just do the hands, don't do the mouth. But since CPR stands for cardio (heart) pulmonary (lungs) resuscitation, how can you do CPR if you are not doing the lungs as well as the heart? 1 Quote

It seems making the heart pump is far more important than putting exhaled air into lungs only to immediately push it out when going back to the heart. Also recall some discussion of air getting pushed into the stomach resulting in the stomach suddenly emptying. Go get a refresher course from a trainer up on current methods. I try to do it every 5 years. Had a great trainer last time, a certified EMT who has performed CPR many times. 3 2 Quote

CPR is different from what I learned as a green paramedic back in (when dirt was young and so was I) just like ACLS cardiac megacode algorithms are VASTLY different ... yes, get the current training, we've learned what works better and that's what's taught now! (Air in stomach bad. Air in stomach comes out and brings friends. Secondhand ravioli not your friend. Voice of experience!) 4 1 Quote
