Some years, back, my kid had a friend over. Nice girl. Socially conscious, Self assured, not afraid to speak her mind.

I'm prepping an awesome roast I found at the store. I'm slicing garlic cloves, cutting cross-grain into the roast, and inserting the slices.

She tells me eating meat is bad (I insert a slice off garlic) I ask "why?"

She tells me "they" are cutting down forests in Brazil to raise cattle. I explain this meat is from a cow in the US, grazed on non-forest land. Land not useful for any other purpose.

She then tries methane production... What, do you have any idea how much methane we would put out if we ate beans?

Out of desperation, she tries "We need to save the animals!"

While cutting garlic slices and cutting cross-grain slits in the roast, I do ruminate on this thought. I do consider suggesting this cow would not even exist if not raised for food. but I have a simpler idea.

"This one's already dead, can't save it." And cut another slit and inserted another garlic slice.

Her face was priceless! And the house smelled so good all afternoon!
