On average, someone is more likely to call when others do, rather than when others don't.

Of course the call centers could staff for these peaks, but they don't; instead customers have to keep calling back hunting for that off-peak time.

Companies don't want to have interpersonal relations with their customers, it costs them employee time...it's all about money.

US perspective: If you pay a 33% income tax...

The tax rate for income on every dollar over $182,101 after deductions is 32%

For every dollar over $231,251, the rate is 35%. But only for dollars over that amount, lesser dollars have a lower rate.

But only for every dollar over that amount, lesser incomes are taxed at a lower rate.

The $100 income amount lacks context.

Gas tax (not diesel) is currently 18.4 cents per gallon as an excise tax at the federal level. Add your sales tax for whatever state you are in, if gas is taxed. At $3.20 per gallon, with a 10% sales tax in Tennessee (depending on county), gas is taxed at about (actually a little less than) 16%.

Now agreed this fuel tax is on top of income tax, so paid with after tax dollars. So 16% if buying gas with income over $200,000 for round numbers. Tennessee has no income tax., the numbers in California are worse. The effective tax rate is lower for lower incomes (ach=knoledging any tan is more painful at lower incomes).

But seriously, folks, when a post starts with "if", you need to look at "if" it applies to you.

Figure out maybe how much money you would hav to earn to pay a 33% income tax in total. Hint: the maximum rate is 37% on income above $578.126. Someone from California can probably get a much lower threshold for both the marginal rate and how much it would take to get the total rate to 33%.

And this leads to mixing numbers. I have no idea where there is a 48% fuel tax. This page might help figure out if there is actually such a place or if it is a bogus number:

It’s just a meme . I just look at the takeaway of your dollar being taxed again and again, etc…..
