Seen trivia in old movie that we use to salute the flag like this while reciting the Plege of Allegiance. But changed sometime before WWII. You start off with your hand on your heart - I pledge allegiance - and then you extend your arm with your hand pointing toward the flag - to our flag, and to the Republic...
