DocWard
13 hours ago, Buckshot Bob said: A rather successful car salesman once told me “there’s a ass for every seat” Double entendre noted, and I've been called worse by better. Oh, that should be 'an ass..." The Mustang II had great styling lines, reminiscent of the original cars of the '60s, and much better than the bloated behemoth the Mustang had become for '71-'73. It was certainly better looking than the Box, I mean Fox Bodied Mustangs that followed, that had no discernible visual connection to the earlier Mustangs. Yes, performance was down compared to earlier and later years, but that is due in large part to the energy crisis and the development of new ways to deal with it. Essentially, the Mustang II was, mechanically, a lab rat for what would become the new performance era starting with the Fox Bodies. Even then, the Mustang II can be made to perform surprisingly well, handling and speeds that would astound many from that time. Yes, if I could get my hands on a Cobra II in good condition, I would take it in a second. 4

He was saying that there’s always someone who’s going to want a car . You just need to find the right person. I had a buddy that had a AMC Javelin and loved it but I’ll never understand why. But different things trip different people’s trigger . BTW this guy was the top salesman at a large dealership for about 30 years . Not many car salesmen last that long, especially in one place . He still works part time coming in for his long time customers. I believe the era of guys like him is soon to be gone 1

Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
in the case of the Javlin/AMX , there were just a bit different then all the other pony cars the one I have always liked is the Chevy 2 , 2 door Nova SS , but have never owned one neat sleeper the Mustang 2 Cobra , could make a splash in the street scene with a bit of tweaking CB

He's actually better than the Disney princess of today. At least he's not escorting little girls into the Bippity Boppity Boutique. 1 1

You're right, there are cars that you would think nobody could like, but they have a following. I always thought the later model Javelins had a cool, futuristic look to them. Not quite my cup of tea, but I can see why someone would like them. The AMC Pacer, now... I have a veteran who is a car salesman who does the same part time thing now, just his long time customers, and a couple of referrals. Although when we last spoke, he didn't think he was going to do it much longer. You're right, a dying breed.

Many car salesmen have a bad reputation but the good ones make the experience much better. The new model seems to be eliminating dealers so I’m not sure how much of a future there is for the car salesmen. Personally I wouldn’t mind a more fixed pricing structure , instead of the haggling. I just got a new car for my wife last fall and can say I really didn’t enjoy the process of pitting the dealers against each other to the price down to a reasonable price. Hopefully I won’t need to do it again for a while

She, and the dealership, make the process as painless as possible, which I greatly appreciate. I hope sales people don't disappear entirely, because a good one, while hard to find, makes life much easier.
